Between 2008 and 2018, our studio has been responsible for purchasing fashion garments for men and women, accessories, and home decor. This job involves selecting garments that are relative to the identity of the distributor and of its clientele.
The fashion buyer performs a crucial role in the development and the success of a fashion business. Main tasks include programming shopping schedules, planning and analyzing sales and budget management. It is fundamental to possess a vast knowledge of product and textile marketing as well as a solid notion of processes and production lag times.
There are infinite amounts of runways and designers that present their creations in various fashion weeks. It is nearly impossible to discuss only one trend within the plurality of the fashion industry. During this time, our work has expanded throughout diverse fashion trade shows and showrooms in Europe and the United States.
Pitti Uomo, in Florence, Italy, is the oldest men’s fashion trade show in the world with an endless number of brands and styles. Pitti Filati, which takes place in the same space but on a different date as Pitti Uomo, is a smaller trade show directed at professionals in the industrial sector presenting the latest trends in threads and raw materials.
In Berlin there are cutting edge fashion trade shows such as Seek, Premium, Selvedge Run just like Scoop in London and Maison Object, Tranoï, Man/Woman in Paris. CIFF and Revolver in Copenhagen, Designers and Agents along with Capsule in New York are trade shows where we have researched new brands and proposals for men and women in the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections.
Traveling around visiting these shows and getting updated on the latest trends is always very stimulating. However, the work involved such as adapting the collection to a local market and making it cohesive requires a lot of attention and methodical decision making which should be evident in the final sale of the products. Establishing best sellers, orchestrating the repetition of certain pieces, satisfying the final client and increasing sales are some of the tasks in this fun and hard job.
